I look to take a travel to north inner Mongolia for quite a while. It's essential to get to a place for gaining insight into the culture and history. Recently I make it to Hulunbeir, by driving. IM region is underdeveloped zone in China. One cannot drive to it on express way alone, it's inevitable to take state high ways even province level roads. When I drove to Heilongjiang in 2018, met rough express way, from Heihe to Wudalianchi, and from Harbin to Mudanjiang, broken road surface. This time again I met the same situation. The road from Xilinguole to Huolinguole south way, I even got one tire leaking after being punctured.I stayed in Wulanhot for two days as the third stop in IM,I repaired the broken tire there .Then I met the question of how to get to Hulunbeir.If I take the express way which is better, but typically it’s not one day’s distance, it’s over 600km, I can’t drive that long distance in one day. Finaly I drove to Arshaan where I started a second part to Hulunbeier or Manzhouli. Arshaan is only a quiet small city to visit, hotels there all with very small rooms. The road from Arshaan to Manzhouli is rough too unexpectedly,it’s dilapidated exactly, not as someone noted, I would have thought the state high way all with better quality.Totally the second part is more than 420 KM, first and last 100 KM both are rough, one struggles to pass them,there are big pits on the road. Maybe this is the only driving travel to IM, because I got a traffic panelty, what a pity, which I haven’t met for many years. I have to be more careful again.

The returning journey began from Hulunbeir where I stayed for two days, the the official Guest House costs me much more, the room is spacious and has been occupated by some celebrities. The back road is as difficult too, yet I got very careful to evade the traffic surveillances. I would have stayed in Arshaan another two days if the small hotel with better breakfast, I checked out the exact second day. I forged ahead with short province or below level roads. It’s great journey from Arshaan to Huolinguole. I took many beautiful pictures on those roads, so there was not any regrets about the decicion. If one want to see beautiful sceneries, low level roads should be reckoned with.
